Men’s and Women’s Basketball bring home wins competing in OEC while Men’s Golf and Men’s Baseball start off the new season right.

Men’s basketball

Men’s Chargers basketball is in a prime position to flip their negative record of 9-18 from last season, for a chance at becoming an Orange Empire Conference playoff contender! With four of their last five games at home and an impressive 5-2 in front of a Cypress crowd, men’s basketball is fighting for a Southern California Regionals appearance. The Chargers are set to host their conference opponents, Riverside Tigers, Santa Ana Dons, Fullerton Hornets, and Santiago Canyon Hawks, with the exception of traveling to Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti to close out the year. A current 15-8 record is promising, however, the work to make it to Regionals has just begun.

Women’s Basketball

The Women’s Cypress basketball season is coming to an end this month, but the fight for the Orange Empire Conference playoffs is just beginning. In a statistically similar season to last year, the Chargers are again needing to play their best game against their conference opponents in the last month. With an even three games at home against the Riverside Tigers, Santa Ana Dons, and Fullerton Hornets and three games on the road at the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti, Orange Coast Pirates, and the Irvine Valley Lasers, the Women’s Chargers basketball team will need to finish the season strong. The Chargers ended last season with a 22-8 record and were knocked out in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Finals, in a close game with the LA Trade-Tech Beavers. A current 15-7 overall record, 7-1 conference record, leaves promise for the last month of Women’s Cypress basketball.

Men’s Golf

The new 2019 golf season started off with a hole in one for the Men’s Chargers Golf team when they finished in fifth place out of fifteen teams in the PT Conception Open at La Purisima. The Chargers are currently defending their CCCAA State Championship name and finished the competition with a team score of 771. Dalton Davenport, sophomore, presented his talent on the course and secured an individual medal. This season seems as if it will be full of wins for the men’s golf team. The team resumes competing on Monday, Feb 11 at the Sycuan Golf Resort.

Men’s Baseball

The Chargers found themselves in a bind after opening weekend when they dominated the Compton Tartars on the field with a final score of 21-2, but just fell short of pulling off a win against the Chaffey Panthers. In the blowout against the Compton Tartars, centerfielder Jesse Lopez gave the opposing athletes a run for their money scoring three runs with no strikeouts. Dawson Gilbert, third baseman and right-fielder, almost led the Chargers to victory with two runs, ending the game at a nail biting score of 4-3. However, the athletes escaped the nerves and won three games in a row against the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines, Desert Roadrunners, and San Diego City Knights.
