Charger’s Women’s Tennis stays positive after a loss against The Ohio Northern University Polar Bears on March 4.

There were still bright smiles and loud laughs on the tennis courts at Cypress College after a challenging match against The Ohio Northern University Polar Bears. Although the women’s tennis team has had a rough start this season with only five women competing, the positive outlooks and fun between the teammates could not be contained. On Monday, March 4 the Polar Bears took the win over the Chargers but did not crush their optimistic spirit. The women kept their chins up, winning doubles for the day.

“It has been a fun season with good challenges. We are here for a good time, not a long time,” is how sophomore Ashley Garcia summarized the season so far. The match against Ohio Northern University was in fact a challenging one considering it is a four year University Division three team. With these stats in mind, the Chargers put up a tough fight and were excited for the next match.

Coach Alvarez suspects a short season due to not having a full squad this year but is hopeful for the next one. Alvarez has five athletes to coach this season instead of the ideal 8-10 on a team. “I enjoy coaching and it is a great group of girls,” commented Alvarez. His goal for next season is to recruit more players to have a full team and dominate the court.

The Chargers season goes into early April and the Orange Empire Conference tournament begins April 11.
